If you have $14 to spend on two coffees, this place is for you.
After a weekend of festivities due to Halloween and homecoming, a study session was very much needed. I decided to go somewhere that I knew had an apt supply of caffeine, Starbucks. Though it has a reputation for being a study/work spot, this was my first time studying in a Starbucks. I grabbed my coffee and breakfast sandwich and found a spot. I’m sure most of you are familiar with Starbucks, so as you know there is a huge drink selection and a decent food selection; however, it does come at a fairly high cost.
My first study experience at Starbucks was very enjoyable. One of the pros is the previously mentioned supply of drinks and food. Another is the free Wi-Fi. There is also the pleasant aroma of coffee and baked goods while you study. Both the exterior and interior of this Starbucks (121 Division Street) are very visually pleasing and unlike every other Starbucks. During this specific time here, the seating area was not busy and I ended up staying for 3 hours despite only buying one drink.
One of the possible negative parts of a Starbucks study session is the constant inflow and outflow of customers. I personally was not bothered by it as I had headphones in, but if you are someone who gets easily distracted, it may not be the place for you. Another possible con to look out for is a lack of seating. I was lucky enough to not have this problem, but it is something else you should be aware of. Finally, there is the temptation to purchase more items. Personally, and I’m sure many of you can relate, I should not be placed in an atmosphere where I can spend $14 on two coffees, because chances are, I will probably do it knowing I cannot afford it. So, if you’re not like me and have some self control, this won’t be an issue for you!
Overall, I feel that Starbucks is a good place to study. It definitely wouldn’t be an everyday choice for me, but I feel it would be nice every once in a while. Being quite a social environment, I think the next time I go will be with some friends rather than by myself.
